Terms of Service

This service is currently in a trial (beta) period. We provide it to help developers and technical users explore English education content through our API.

How you can use this service

You are encouraged to use this content to build tools and applications. By using this service, you agree to:

  • Respect the licence: All content should be attributed correctly as outlined in our Licensing (add link) documentation
  • Provide feedback: As this is a trial, we may contact registered users who have given consent for feedback to help improve the service
  • Avoid misrepresentation: You must not imply that your application is an official DfE product or has been endorsed by the DfE

Fair usage

So that the service remains stable and accessible for users, we apply the following limits

  • Rate limiting: Users are limited to 100 requests per minute
  • Automated scraping: Excessive or aggressive scraping that impacts service performance is not permitted
  • Bulk downloads: If you require a full export of the data store, please contact the team rather than attempting to crawl the entire API If you exceed these limits you will receive a response with 429 Too Many Requests HTTP status code.

Trial period and service availability

This is a trial service and is not yet a permanent DfE offering.

  • Changes to the API: We may change the rate limits, data structure, endpoints, or fields without extensive notice during this period
  • Service suspension: We reserve the right to withdraw or shut down this service at any time
  • Data permanence: Do not rely on this service for mission-critical applications. If we decide to decommission the service, we will provide notice via this page and to registered email addresses where possible.
